Identifying a new species as it emerges is a sort of almost mystical goal among scientists who study evolution. The change from journalist to biology teacher may leave my genetic material intact, but it’s likely to be profound nonetheless.
I think of myself as a kind of living experiment: will my experiences, skills, sense of humor and commitment — combined with a little heat and light in a demanding master’s program — result in the making of a successful teacher?
Hello Keith,
I am one of your fellow Fellows and wanted to thank you for sharing your blog. I am honored to be teamed up with so many talented teachers to be. The PBL institute reminded me of six sigma, remixed.
I will be taking the chemistry PRAXIS on July 25th. The frightening part is– I am a biologist, med tech by trade. My chemistry is at the best 28 years old. Nothing is left from general chemistry as I took organic chemistry for my minors. So these tests will be the first stretch for me.
My solace lies in the fact that I am not alone and I have tons of support. I am sure that you will make a wonderful biology teacher. I will make you a great deal— I will help you with biology if you help me write papers. LOL!
Thanks again for allowing us to read your blog,
Tammy Vermillion
Keith:
Yesterday I was at the record store and bought a copy of the Clash’s Sandinista album. I never listened to it when it first came out, but I remembered how you would write about this album and of your adventures in The Barometer at Oregon State.
I recall reading about your Ford Maverick and the spark-o-matic speakers and the Clash playing on the tape deck. I was pleased to find this blog so that I can read a bit about your current adventure.
If you have any of your old writings, it would be a treat to share them here.

On second thought, you got better things to discuss here on this blog. I will give it a good looking through. Thanks, cf
I am so touched by your fond memories of those columns! I have to say that I still find the Clash inspiring as I try this teaching thing … and you know, maybe I can find an old piece or two to post. Thanks so much for taking the time to read and comment … I hope the Beaver spirit still burns bright in you!
Hello-
I am a WWTF as well, this time part of the Ohio cohort. I have been reading your blog for a couple months and I just wanted to say to keep up the great work! I am curious to see what you are up to next school year. Also, feel free to check out my experiences from time to time at makeshapedo.net

Hey Keith;
I have a “fond memory” as well that involved your old Maverick and I think it also included a facimile of an Uzi attached to the wing mirror and something to do with the Secret Service. How are you old friend? Hope you shoot me an email so we can catch up a bit. longhouse@myfrontiermail.com
